Only those with their eyes shut tight and their fingers in their ears can doubt that present-day America is possessed by the spirit of antichrist. This spirit, already present in the world in the days of the Apostle John, was predicted by him to continue to grow until it would crest and brake over the whole end-time world (1 John 4:1-3). According to John, this spirit is not just embodied in man's blatant hostility toward Christ, but also in man's blasphemous superseding of Christ.

The term "antichrist" only appears four times in all of Scripture. Furthermore, it is only used by the Apostle John. Interestingly, John never uses it in his Gospel nor in the book of Revelation, the Bible's most important prophetic book. Instead, it is only found in two of John's three short epistles—three times in 1 John and once in 2 John. The plural "antichrists" is also used by John one time (1 John 2:18).

According to the Apostle John, all unbelievers are antichrists, since they not only deny that Christ is the only hope of the world, but also put their hope elsewhere, either in themselves, others, or other things. By doing so, they point others, at the forfeiture of their immortal souls, away from Christ, our only hope of glory, and to false hopes. Truly, no greater crime could possibly be committed against God or man? Yet, this soul destroying diabolical deed is being perpetrated today without a shrug of the shoulders from this fallen planet, not to mention only a few raised eyebrows in church pews and pulpits.

Our government, as well as our populace, is unquestionably becoming increasingly antichrist. Not only is this clearly seen in our country's growing hostility toward Christianity, but also in our government's usurpation of the place of Christ in our lives. For instance, our government is posing as our Lord, by seizing dictatorial power over our lives and livelihoods, under the guise of being our Savior, saving us all from the coronavirus pandemic.

Instead of being appalled by this antichrist atrocity being perpetrated by our government, an ever-growing majority of Americans are bowing to Big Brother as their Lord and Savior. What's even more appalling, however, is the acquiescence of America's contemporary church to our country's swapping of Jesus Christ for Uncle Sam. Many a contemporary Christian has no qualms looking to government rather than to God to save us from our nation's ever-worsening and proliferating problems.

The day is fast approaching when you and I will find ourselves in the same dilemma that Peter and John found themselves in before the Sanhedrin, the Supreme Court of their day (Acts 4:1-20). We too will be forced to choose between allegiance to a beastly antichrist government or unfeigned fidelity to Jesus Christ. Will we prove our Christian profession or prove ourselves Christian imposters? Time will tell; and the time is quickly coming upon us!
