Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who Trump formerly denounced as "Ron Sanctimonious," has publicly criticized the Republican led House of Representatives for failing to codify budget cuts implemented by Trump's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) in Trump's Big Beautiful Bill. As usual, Republicans are proving themselves to be all talk and no action. According to DeSantis, Republicans are once again betraying their voters by "casting aside any meaningful spending reductions," as well as continuing to fully fund things like USAID, which DOGE found to be full of outlandish fraud, waste, and abuse.

That DeSantis is over the target with his criticism of congressional Republicans’ passage of Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill is proven by none other that Elon Musk, who has besmirched the bill as big, but not beautiful. This past Sunday, on CBS Sunday Morning, Musk told CBS’s David Pogue, “I was disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not decreases it, and undermines the work that the DOGE team is doing.”

The few brave fiscal conservatives in the House of Representatives with enough intestinal fortitude to oppose the writing of more hot checks by Congress to fund our government's out of control spending, not to mention all of its fraud, waste, and abuse, were not only denounced by Trump as "grandstanders," but threatened to be primaried in their upcoming bids for reelection.

In the Senate, fiscal conservatives like Ron Johnson of Wisconsin and Rand Paul of Kentucky, are drawing a line in the sand, by refusing to support a spendthrift Congress' narrowly passed omnibus spending bill, which really does nothing to reduce government spending or our national debt. Indeed, it increases our annual deficit to $2 trillion and our national debt, which is already $36.2 trillion, by multiple trillions. At the same time, this so-called Beautiful Bill, does little, if anything, to reduce government fraud, waste, and abuse. For instance, it postpones till 2029 any cuts in Medicaid, which DOGE found to be riddled with massive fraud, such as the billions of Medicaid dollars going to double-dippers, able-bodied workers, and illegal immigrants.

It looks like Trump's Big Beautiful Bill, which is not so beautiful after all, despite some attractive things in it, might get blocked in the Republican controlled Senate. Regardless of whether it does or not, and of what kind of compromise might be worked out in the end to avoid its blockage and to assure its passage, there is one thing we can all be sure of. Our financial ship won't be righted by whatever happens and we will still be swiftly sailing afterward undeterred toward the rocky shoals of financial insolvency, regardless of Republicans' promise of nothing but smooth sailing ahead and Trump’s guaranteed “Golden Age of America,”
