Introduction: Proverbs is the Bible's book of wise sayings. It has been said, "A proverb a day will keep the devil away.

Proverbs 4:18-19  The path of the righteous is ever-brightening, illuminating the proper steps of the righteous into the perfect light. On the other hand, the path of the wicked is ever-darkening, increasing the stumbling of the wicked into the darkest gloom.

Proverbs 6:1-2 — Those who impulsively vouch for another will find themselves imprisoned by their vow.

Proverbs 8:13 — To fear the Lord is to hate evil. Only those who find vainglory, vice, and villainy to be vile truly fear the Lord.

Proverbs 11:24  While gain may come to the generous, the penny-pincher may come to poverty.

Proverbs 12:22 — With liars at a premium and truth tellers at a minimum, America has become detestable rather than delightful to the Lord.

Proverbs 13:13 — The dust on your Bible may prove to be your undoing.

Proverbs 13:24 —Kids are like boats, they go in the right direction when paddled from the rear.

Proverbs 14:4 — Some are devoted to keeping their crib clean in life; others to the dirty work of plowing life's fields. The latter are productive in life's inevitable disarray; the former are persnickety over life’s inconsequential details.

Proverbs 14:34 — A nation that fights for the right, believing that right makes might, will be exalted by God, but a nation that believes the opposite, that might makes right, will be a reproach to its people.

Proverbs 16:25 — What fallen men convince themselves of in their flesh is never righteous, but always ruinous.

Proverbs 16:33 — We may roll the dice in our lives, but God determines how they fall and what our fortune will be.

Proverbs 16:33 — Whether it's lots or ballots men cast, the decision is the Lord's. It's a sovereign God who determines the outcome, not chance, circumstance, nor campaign.

Proverbs 18:8 — To listen to a gossip’s slander is to have your view of the slandered forever stained, since it fixes a cloud of suspicion over the head of the slandered, irrespective of their guilt or innocence.

Proverbs 18:8 — If you listen to the words of a gossip, the gossip’s victim will be perpetually tainted in your mind with suspicion. Thus, you should not lend your ears to gossip, lest its victims become indelibly tarnished in your eyes.

Proverbs 19:18 — If you fail to discipline your child, you will be a party to their destruction. (Proverbs 19:18 NIV)

Proverbs 20:29  Whereas the glory of youth is brawn and beauty, the glory of old age is the gray hair of wisdom and experience. Unfortunately, bodily brawn and beauty are obsessed over and overestimated, while senior sages are often overlooked and underappreciated.

Proverbs 21:1 — Our world is not in the hands of world rulers, but world rulers are in the hands of God.

I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proofs I see of this truth—that God governs in the affairs of men. And if a sparrow cannot fall to the ground without His notice, is it probable that an empire can rise without His aid?" (Benjamin Franklin)

Proverbs 21:13 —If we turn a deaf ear to the cry of the poor, God will turn a deaf ear to our cry in prayer.

Proverbs 21:15 — True justice is a delight to the righteous and a deterrent to the evildoer, leaving the former elated and the latter indicted.

Proverbs 22:7  Your lenders become your masters and you their indentured servants when you borrow above your means to satisfy your insatiable greeds.

"There is one rule that works in ever calamity, be it pestilence, war, or famine, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer. The poor even help arrange it." (Will Rogers)

Proverbs 22:7 — The borrower is ruled by and enslaved to his lender.

Proverbs 23:4-5 No matter how big a money clip you've got, it can't clip the wings of your money, Your money will inevitably fly from your hands, no matter how tightfisted you grip it.

Proverbs 23:9 — Don’t waste your breath speaking to fools, for they are insensible to good sense.

Proverbs 23:23 Lies, foolishness, ignorance, and misunderstanding are free of charge, but come with costly consequences. On the other hand, truth, wisdom, instruction, and understanding are very expensive, but come with inestimable benefits for all who refuse to sell them.

Proverbs 24:10 To raise the white flag is proof of a weak faith.

Proverbs 24:24-26 — To exonerate the wicked is to be excoriated by the righteous, but to rebuke the wicked and stand for the right is to be a blessing to the righteous and beloved by them.

Proverbs 25:11 — A timely wise word⏤the right word at the right time⏤is an invigorating and invaluable work of art.

Proverbs 25:27  To seek one’s own glory is a most vainglorious and ignoble task.

Everything you blow on your own horn is a sour note in the ears of God.

Proverbs 25:28 — As an unwalled city is defenseless and vulnerable to its enemies, undisciplined Christians are defenseless and vulnerable to their enemies—the flesh, the world, and the devil.

Proverbs 26:4-5 — Don’t make a fool of yourself by answering a fool. Instead of answering his silly questions, quote him the Scripture; otherwise, he may think you dumbfounded rather than himself dimwitted.

Proverbs 26:22 — To listen to a gossip’s slander is to have your view of the slandered forever stained, since it fixes a cloud of suspicion over the head of the slandered, irrespective of their guilt or innocence.

Proverbs 26:22 — If you listen to the words of a gossip, the gossip’s victim will be perpetually tainted in your mind with suspicion. Thus, you should not lend your ears to gossip, lest its victims become indelibly tarnished in your eyes.

Proverbs 28:13  It doesn’t take rocket science to figure out God’s formula for sin. It’s as simple as admitting your sins to God and quitting your sins for God. Following it alone assures you of spiritual prosperity.

Proverbs 29:2 — Whether or not a people rejoice is dependent upon whether of not their rulers are righteous. Woe to a people governed by the wicked, but joy to a people governed by the just.

Proverbs 29:9 — You can’t win an argument with a fool, for he or she loathes and laughs at logic.

Proverbs 29:9 When the wise contend with fools, fools only laugh and become loud and libelous.

Proverbs 29:25 — There is no surer nor stronger snare than the fear of man. To seek public approval rather than to please the Almighty is to inescapably fetter oneself to public opinion at the forfeiture of one's immortal soul.

Proverbs 30:18-19 The law of gravity is unbeknownst to the eagle, neither is the eagle bound by it. The eagle flies simply because God created Him to fly. Therefore, the sight of an eagle in flight is a testimony to you that you too can do whatever God created you to do.

Proverbs 30:24-28 Learn some big wisdom from four little things. Ants are puny, but prepared. Conies are defenseless, but dwell in rocks. Locusts are trivial all alone, but a terror all together. Spiders are petrifying and stomped on, but persevering and seen everywhere.

Proverbs 31:10-31  Make no mistake about it, there is no greater or more important vocation in the world today than that of being a mother.

"The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world." (William Ross Wallace)
