NEHEMIAH
Tweeting Through Nehemiah

Introduction: Nehemiah is a post-exilic book that tells about the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem around 150 years after they had been destroyed by the Babylonians in 587 B.C.

Nehemiah 1:3-4 — As Nehemiah wept over the broken down walls and vulnerability of Jerusalem, the city of God, we should weep today over the broken down walls and vulnerability of the church of God.

There are far too many dry eyes in the congregations of today’s dying churches.

Nehemiah 4:1-3 — The enemy of God’s people always mocks them as foolish and maligns their toil as futile, in hopes of dampening their devotion with the deadly duo of discouragement and despair.

It’s a short step from believing yourself useless to becoming faithless; after all, no one who believes their work doesn’t count will continue to work.

Nehemiah 4:4-6 — God must give us a mind to work if we are to remain industrious, work wholeheartedly, and prove to be successful, in spite of the ridicule and resistance of our rancorous rivals.

It is God’s wrath that is aroused when our enemies allege that our work for Him is a waste of time.

Nehemiah 4:7-23  — In the face of frightening threats from fire-breathing foes, workers of God must be both undaunted and undeterred in their work, as well as ever-ready for war.

Courage in the service of Christ is not spawned by the absence of fear, but by the sure conviction that there’s too much at stake to succumb to being scared.

Nehemiah 4:10 — Workers for God must focus on the rebuilding, not the rubble, least they give out, give in, and give up.

If God has enlisted us to do it, He will enable us to do it, no matter how exacting it is to do.

Nehemiah 4:15-23 — To do the work of the Lord requires the workers to watch, as well as to work. We need to work with one hand, while we keep our other on a weapon—the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. (Ephesians 6:17)

The only offensive weapon afforded us in the armor of God is the Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God (Ephesians 6:11-17). Therefore, if you’re not acquainted with the Scripture you’re unarmed against the attacks of Satan.

Nehemiah 6:9-14 — The people of God should never cower from the world in God’s house, but charge the world in God’s name, for God is honored by His courageous champions, never by cringing cowards.

The church should never be turned into a hiding place, lest Christians be taken for cowards and Christianity for cowardice.

Nehemiah 7:1-3It’s not enough to discipline ourselves and drive the enemy out of our lives and place of living. Afterward, we must ever guard the gates of our lives and place of living against any and all future enemy encroachments.

We must ever guard our gates against the gatecrashing of the god of this world. (2 Corinthians 4:4)

Nehemiah 8:10 — Joy, unlike happiness, is not dependent upon happenstance, but only upon its object. Therefore, the joy of the Lord is our strength in every situation, since it has nothing to do with our changing circumstances, but everything to do with our unchanging Christ!

The joy of the Lord is not found in the absence of crises, but in being absorbed in Christ!
