2 PETER
Tweeting Through 2 Peter

Introduction: 2 Peter is the second New Testament epistle (letter) written by the Apostle Peter. It was written by Peter to warn Christians about false teachers and end-time scoffers.

2 Peter 1:4  Contrary to popular opinion, the Bible is not a rule book, but a promise book. It is not God's precepts, but His promises that produce godliness and cause the lust of the world to lose all of its luster.

Those assured of God’s promises to us in Christ, will fall so in love with Christ and so out of love with the world that the world will lose all of its luster and allure in the light of their all-consuming love for Christ!

2 Peter 1:10  — The more sure we are of our salvation, the steadier we will be on our feet.

2 Peter 1:16-18  To know the power of the reality of Christ, one must have a personal encounter with Christ. He is only real to those to whom His glory has been revealed and to whom His voice has been heard.

Christ is a mere doctrine to all who’ve been persuaded to profess Him, but Christ is a mighty reality to all who are personally acquainted with Him!

2 Peter 1:16-21 — According to Peter, the most persuasive proof of the claims of Christ is not the testimony of eyewitnesses like himself, but “the more sure word [testimony] of prophecy." The Scripture's predictions of the world's future proves Christ to be the world's Savior!

Any preacher who claims to be ignoring the subject of prophecy, in order to devote himself to evangelism, is foolishly disarming himself of the soul winners’ most persuasive argument in winning souls to Christ.

2 Peter 1:16-21 — Any Christian who claims to be ignoring the study of prophecy in order to devote himself to evangelism is foolishly disarming himself of the most powerful weapon he could ever wield in the battle for men’s immortal souls.

2 Peter 1:19 — The most persuasive evidence that a Christian can present to prove the claims of Christ is the sure word of Bible prophecy.

2 Peter 1:20-21  According to the Apostle Peter, the writers of sacred writ were but scribes. The true author was the Holy Spirit, who dictated to them what to write. Therefore, the Bible is not the words of men, but the Word of God. It is divine oracle, not human opinion.

"The Bible must be the invention of either good men or angels, bad men or devils, or of God. It could not be the invention of good men or angels, for they neither would or could make a book, and tell lies all the time they were writing it, saying, 'Thus saith the Lord,' when it was their own invention. It could not be the invention of bad men or devils, for they would not make a book which commands all duty, forbids all sin, and condemns their souls to hell for all eternity. Therefore, I draw this conclusion, that the Bible must be given by divine inspiration." (John Wesley)

2 Peter 2:1-3  False teachers must be confronted, lest the truth of the Gospel be corrupted and the testimony of the church compromised.

For the church to tolerate false teachers is spiritual treachery and treason against Christ.

2 Peter 2:12  To pursue sinful lust under the pretense of natural desires is to behave like a “brute beast,” to prove yourself unacquainted with God, and to doom yourself to be destroyed by your own depravity.

For sinners to believe that their predisposition to sin makes their sin preordained by God is a preposterous lie that imperils their immortal souls.

2 Peter 3:1-13 — If the Bible predicts the future and its predictions come true, all scoffers of the Scripture are silenced.

2 Peter 3:1-13 — There is no global warming in the Bible, but a global warning. The earth will be dissolved and burned up on the Day of the Lord. So it's your personal salvation, not your planet's survival that you should be concerned about.

2 Peter 3:14-18 — The Christian is to faithfully persevere and patiently wait for Christ’s return, being ever-diligent not to be deceived by the deceptive lawlessness of the last days.

2 Peter 3:15-16 — When the spiritually unstable who are unlearned in the Scripture, misunderstand and misinterpret it, they seriously imperil their immortal souls.

2 Peter 3:18  — It's not enough for you to initially get to Christ by grace. You need to go on and grow in grace until you become intimately acquainted with Christ. A Christian is not a mere acquaintance of Christ, but a close intimate of Christ.
