Tweeting Through 1 Timothy

Introduction: First Timothy is the Apostle Paul's first epistle to Timothy, who Paul affectionally refers to not only as his "son in the faith," but as his "dearly beloved son" (1 Timothy 1:2; 2 Timothy 1:2; 2:1). This letter contains not only the sage advice of the great apostle to his young protege, but also Paul's inspired exhortation to this young pastor as well.

1 Timothy 1:8-11 — If you're offended by the Bible rather than OK with it, you're to blame, not the Bible. The problem is not that you find the Bible offensive, but that you're found out by the Bible.

1 Timothy 1:15  The closer Christians get to Christ the more they see themselves as the chief of sinners and their salvation in Christ as truly stupendous!

If Christ, who came into the world to save sinners, could save the chief of sinners, then, He can certainly save a sinner like you.

1 Timothy 2:5-6  The one and only mediator between God and man is the God-man, Christ Jesus, for no one else as both can represent both in the mediation of their reconciliation.

God became a man in Christ Jesus to ransom kidnapped man from the captor and captivity of sin.

1 Timothy 3:7 — The fowler the Psalmist warns us about in the Old Testament (Psalm 91:3) is identified by the Apostle Paul in the New Testament. It is the devil who seeks to craftily ensnare us in order to cunningly employ us in the execution of his will. (2 Timothy 2:26)

1 Timothy 3:16  The ungodly are made godly by what is universally understood to be unfathomable mysteries. The immortal became mortal, the just was justified, angels were awestruck, the paradoxical was proclaimed, the unbelievable believed, and the glorious one was glorified.

The great mystery of godliness is Jesus Christ—Deity enshrined in humanity, in order to become the secret of all piety.

1 Timothy 5:6 — Everyone who lives without Christ is one of the living dead. While it’s possible to exist for your own pleasure, it’s impossible to live for your own pleasure. To truly live, one must live to please Christ, who is not only the purpose of life, but life itself.

1 Timothy 5:24-25  The sins of some sinners are currently conspicuous, but the sins of others currently concealed. Likewise, the service of some saints is currently seen and celebrated, but the service of others is currently unseen and unsung.

When God shines the light of eternity back over time, all the sinner’s hidden sins and all of the saint’s humble service will be brought to light.

1 Timothy 6:20 — Fallible human science is proven false when found to be in opposition to infallible and divinely inspired Scripture. Therefore, no Christian should be deceived into disbelieving infallible Scripture by some contradictory statement of some fallible scientist.

Man-made science is not the polygraph of the divinely inspired Word of God, but God's infallible Word should serve as the polygraph of man's fallible science.
